Etsy 2018 SEO - What You Need To Know

Only a few months before, it was simple to optimize Etsy listings for searches AND to quantify Etsy SEO achievements.
Etsy sellers can upgrade their names and tags, and wait a few hours, perform an Etsy search, and see their listings within the first couple of pages of search results.

Not so anymore.

Now you can SEO the hell out of an Etsy list, pick the best names and tags, and generally be amazing. However, when you search for your key word with the Etsy search bar, you may never find your item.
This can be frustrating when you are working on your Etsy SEO, particularly when it does not look like some of your modifications are making a huge difference.
Because Etsy is currently using artificial intelligence (AI), the research process is becoming smarter, especially when it comes to ranking search results for buyers. As a result, Etsy sellers are finding it increasingly tough to maximize their stores and quantify their Etsy SEO achievement.

So why can't Etsy sellers see their listings in hunt anymore?
To gain a small bit of comprehension, we ought to have a look at the clues Etsy is providing.

Personalization
According to Silverman, the Etsy search system is presently attempting to highlight"results most relevant to the particular buyer" predicated on a variety of factors, including time of day and personal tastes.
This is generally good for buyers since (in theory) their searches will probably be more effective.
But what does it imply for Etsy sellers that are trying to gauge how their listings are doing in hunt?
From the video, Silverman explicitly informs us,"personalized results mean you will no more see the same results every single time you type in an internet search."
So basically, you will not be able to type your keyword into the Etsy search bar anymore and determine exactly where your product is ranking.
Therefore, some individuals could still be seeing with your listings on page 1 (in case your things are relevant to them) while some (maybe including yourself) might be visiting your listings on page 15.
Etsy is not likely to show you your own listings because they know you are not going to purchase them. Your things are not relevant for you.
Even once you move incognito or carry out a search while you are logged out, Etsy still comes with your IP address. Etsy knows who you are. And you are not going to fool the machine.
So in theory, it's possible that your SEO is not quite as bad as you think it is.

You might not be discovering your listings on page 1 of search results anymore (because your items are not necessary for you), but it doesn't mean that clients aren't seeing them.
The actual problem then, is that as Etsy vendors, we have lost our primary assessment tool (doing Etsy hunts ) for quantifying our Etsy SEO achievement.
The Way to Measure Etsy SEO achievement in 2018
We're accustomed to scanning our key words into the Etsy search bar to determine where our listings are ranking. Because this is not a reliable method of measurement, we will need to explore additional tools for quantifying Etsy SEO success.
Listed below are a few hints:

EtsyRank-This program provides a rank checker tool which searches Etsy to your items and filters out personalization results. The fantastic news is that EtsyRank allows you to do this for free once you register for an account. The application also allows you to carry out bulk rank searches with a paid Pro subscription.

Context-Specific Rankings

1 big shift in the Etsy search engine entails a theory known as context-specific ranks.

Silverman first introduced this term in his November 6, 2017 Quarter 3 Etsy Earnings Conference Call, when he declared that CSR was executed in September 2017 and defined it technology that uses query and user-level information in real time.
Silverman further illustrated the idea of context-specific positions in his December 2017 video by displaying results of a before-CSR and an after-CSR key word search for"laundry basket." From the before-CSR example, the search provided results for a variety of laundry-basket related things, including decals picturing laundry baskets, a laundry tote with images of laundry baskets, and a rack for holding laundry shelves.

In the after-CSR instance, the search results prominently feature real laundry baskets.
CSR will make it much easier for buyers to find items that they are more inclined to buy.
How then, as Etsy vendors, do we allow our ideal customers understand that we have something they would enjoy? How can we improve our Etsy SEO strategy?
Etsy has been reticent to make official statements about hunt changes, however, Silverman gives us some hints. His discussion Q&A informs us Etsy is
"...working hard to get better at understanding what your thing actually is, based on all of the data in your listings, such as image recognition, with less focus on your own names. Eventually, our goal is to get you design your name and product description in a manner that many appeals to clients."
Does this mean that Etsy will start to focus more on your product description? It looks like it.
And image recognition? Yep, that too
Every one of these changes in Etsy SEO could have been more manageable for Etsy sellers if Etsy had not begun showing multiple search results for the same store on the first pages of search.
Previously, Etsy added a variable for diversity when showing search results. This factor made Etsy search look fair by only allowing one record from every shop on every page of search. It gave greater Etsy vendors a fighting chance to be found.
Now when customers search, a couple of stores dominate search results. Clients buy those things, and those shops continue to acquire boosts in evaluations. (Additionally, Etsy proceeds to earn a profit.)
If you're one of those shops dominating, I'm certain you're happy with clumping. For everyone else, it has turned into a real buzzkill.

Etsy system limits the number of listings per seller that may return within the first couple of pages of results for any specific query. This makes it possible for us to assist buyers go through the breadth of things on Etsy, which, as we have learned through testing and data, raises the likelihood they will make a buy. We are going to continue to analyze the information to make sure we are helping buyers find what they're looking for within our varied assortment of listings. We need to do a better job at providing Breadth, rather than just Depth. I agree this is an area where we need to improve, and we're making substantial investments to achieve that.

As for me, I believe this is simply a very inadequate response to something that's ruining the livelihood of several Etsy sellers.
Since we can not restrain clumping, as Etsy vendors, we will need to strategize.
So how will your Etsy SEO strategy evolve?
Right nowwe know that we can improve Etsy SEO using these hints out of the Etsy Seller Handbook:
